Goddess Glamping

If you know anything about me or you’ve followed the Bluefish Design blog for any amount of time, you know I’m a stickler for experiences - especially those that awaken the senses and create memories.

It should come as no surprise then that a few years ago, I participated in a dynamic design competition as part of the 2020 Designer Showcase in Denver, Colo., hosted by the International Live Events Association (Colorado Chapter) ILEA and National Association for Catering & Events (NACE). As part of the event, teams were required to select two elements from the periodic table and infuse the duo throughout a “living diorama” complete with food service and a non-alcoholic signature drink.

Together with my talented teammates, two culinary chefs, a floral and a lighting designer and a seasoned event coordinator, highlighting Copper and Cobalt, we brought to life a vision of Goddess Glamping among female friends complete with relaxation, yoga and meditation, good food and even better company.

Given my knack for graphic design, the team appointed me to produce our event collateral and set design, along with final staging, while they executed upon their areas of speciality, including menu creation. On the day of the competition, we began eager and early with an estimated 10 hours to construct our design from the ground up. Exhilarating and exciting! In the end, my team won not one but two awards: Designer’s Choice and Best Use of Technology.

As someone who loves design, my favorite part of working with events is that magical moment when the work is done and the vision comes to life. The showcase was attended by hundreds of event professionals, designers and other industry leaders. It wasn’t a typical experience in my marketing and design career but it certainly pushed me out of my envelope and became a catalyst for me trying new things.
